# Course registration and participants (/en/businesses/courses/registration-and-participants)

A customer signs up for a course once and gets every class of their group. The settings below decide who can join, when, and what happens when a group or a single class is full.

---

## Publishing and the registration period [#publishing-and-the-registration-period]

A new course is pending until you **Publish course**. Customers join during the registration period you set, which covers every group. For groups that open at different times, make separate courses.

- **Course visibility.** **Public** courses list on your venue page. **Unlisted** courses open from their link. **Private** courses show to invited participants.
- **Show course before registration opens.** The course is visible early so you can promote it.

Until registration closes, a participant who hasn't paid can leave on their own. After that, and once a participant has paid in **Pay to join** or **Pay later**, staff remove participants.

---

## A participant's classes [#a-participants-classes]

Joining puts the participant on every class of the group that has not ended yet. **Maximum sessions** caps how many classes each participant gets, starting with the earliest classes that have room, then queue places on full classes.

A group's own cap is **Maximum participants**. Lowering it below the number already confirmed moves the participants over it to the queue, or off the course when it has no queue.

## Queues and replacement classes [#queues-and-replacement-classes]

| Setting | What it does |
| ------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Queuing** | When a group is full, customers can join its queue. When a place frees up, the next person gets it straight away and is notified. |
| **Queuing for single classes** | Course members can queue for one class that is full. When a place opens, they go ahead of replacement bookings and drop-ins. |
| **Class replacement** | A member who drops a class can book a class of another group in the same course instead. |
| **Open classes to non-participants** | After registration ends, classes with free places become bookable by anyone who is not on the course, at the class's price. |

**Promote from queue** gives a place to someone further down the queue. What a promoted customer pays is under [Pay to join](/businesses/courses/payments#pay-to-join).

**Queuing for single classes** fits groups whose roster is bigger than one class can hold. Members enroll in the course once and then compete for places class by class.

With **Class replacement**, a member never holds more classes than the group has sessions. For each of their own classes they drop, they can book one class in another group.

---

## Children [#children]

**Who can sign up** is **Anyone**, **Only children added by a guardian** or **Only people signing in with their own account**. Set it on the course, and override it on a group when one group is for children and another for adults. Participants who joined before a change keep their places.

The setting works with **Allow child accounts** on. A guardian signs the child up and pays for them, and the child is the participant. Read more in [Event registration and payments](/businesses/events/registration-and-payments#who-can-sign-up).

---

## Participation forms [#participation-forms]

A [participation form](/businesses/customers/participation-forms) on the course asks customers your questions when they join, such as allergies or skill level. With **Required for sign-up** on, every participant answers it.

---

## The participant list [#the-participant-list]

Each group's participant list shows who is confirmed, who is in the queue, what they paid and how many sessions they have attended. From there you add someone who signs up at the desk or by phone, promote from the queue, mark a payment made outside Thril as paid, refund a payment, or remove a participant with a refund choice.

**Download CSV** exports the participants with their contact details, group, price and form answers, for an instructor or a club secretary.

Each group has its own chat with its participants. Read more in [Chat](/businesses/customers/chat).

---

## The course on your venue page [#the-course-on-your-venue-page]

The course shows on your venue page under courses, or under seasons for a season. Customers see the groups with their schedule, price, number of sessions and the places left. Once they join, the classes show in their bookings like any class, and payment requests show where they pay for the course.

---

## Classes below their minimum [#classes-below-their-minimum]

A class takes its group's **Minimum participants** when you add it, and **Sync these changes to the classes in this group** copies a changed minimum to the existing classes. When a class's registration closes with fewer confirmed participants than its minimum, Thril cancels the class and tells the participants. Payments made for that class alone are refunded, and a payment for the whole course stays as it is. To run a small group anyway, clear its minimum and sync the change to its classes.
