# Customer lists (/en/businesses/marketing/customer-lists)

A customer list is a saved group of your customers, such as the members who have not been in for two weeks or everyone from the Tuesday yoga class. With a list, messages, offers and automations reach the people they are meant for instead of every customer you have.

You build a list once and use it wherever you pick customers. A dynamic list keeps itself up to date: a customer joins when they start to match its filters and leaves when they no longer do.

A marketing email goes only to the people on the list who have given email marketing consent.

## Three kinds of list [#three-kinds-of-list]

| Kind | Who is on it | Changes |
| --------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Dynamic** | Customers who match the filters | Thril refreshes it regularly |
| **Static** | Customers who matched the filters when you saved it | When staff add or remove people on the list's page |
| **Company customers** | Every [company customer](/businesses/customers/company-customers) of your company | Always up to date. A company customer you add later is on it straight away |

Pick **Dynamic** for an audience that should follow what customers do, such as "lapsed for 90 days". An email or announcement goes to the people on it at its last refresh, and **Update now** refreshes it on the spot. Pick **Static** for a fixed group, such as the people who signed up for one tournament, or a hand-picked group you add to with **Add participants**.

A **Company customers** list is how you email businesses, in [emails](/businesses/marketing/emails).

## Dynamic list filters [#dynamic-list-filters]

A dynamic list can filter on a customer's activity: reservations, payments, events, courses and the sports they play. It can also filter on who they are, such as age, language, lifetime value, credits, memberships and session cards, and on email consent, push notifications and the Thril app. CrossFit venues can also filter on workouts logged.

Number filters such as lifetime value, age and counts take a range with **Is between**, as in "lifetime value between 200 and 399 €". Both ends count.

Counts such as reservations, events attended and payments can be limited to a date range, as in "more than 5 reservations this season".

### Session cards running out [#session-cards-running-out]

**Bought session cards** finds everyone who has ever bought the cards you pick, used-up and expired cards included. To reach the customers whose card is running out, use the balance filters. Each one counts the cards you pick:

- **Session card uses left** adds up what is left on the customer's unexpired cards. A used-up card counts as zero until it expires. A card with a time quota counts hours.
- **Days until session card expires** counts the days until the last of those cards with uses left expires.

A customer who has already bought their next card has its uses on top, so a list of "one use or fewer left" leaves them out. A card with no use limit never runs low, and a card with no expiry date never expires.

To remind customers to buy a new card, start a [workflow](/businesses/marketing/workflows) from **Customer is added to a list** on a list such as "10-class card, uses left 1 or fewer". Turn on **Allow repeat runs for the same record** so the reminder also goes out when their next card runs low.

### Event participation [#event-participation]

The participation filters, **Events**, **Event series**, **Courses** and **Event sport types**, count a confirmed signup. To act on the people who were there, start a workflow from **Customer is marked present at an event**, which follows [event attendance](/businesses/events/attendance).

### Combining filters [#combining-filters]

Filters in one group must all match. Separate groups are alternatives: a customer on any group is on the list. "Consent accepted and last reservation more than 90 days ago", or "lifetime value over 500", gives you lapsed customers you can email plus your best customers whatever their recency.

To reach everyone without a membership, make a list of your members and leave it out of the email or announcement.

### Venues [#venues]

In a company with several venues, **Include customers from venues** limits the list to some of them. A list limited to venues counts what the customer did there. Memberships and session card balances look at every venue.

## Changes to a list [#changes-to-a-list]

- **Editing a dynamic list's filters** refreshes the list and changes who it reaches. If workflows start from the list, the edit changes their audience too.
- **A promo code for a dynamic list** keeps the list as it was when you saved the code. See [Promo codes](/businesses/marketing/promo-codes#who-can-use-the-code).
