# Fill a term of courses (/en/businesses/playbooks/fill-a-term-of-courses)

A term of courses is sold once and runs for months: junior tennis from September to December, a ten-week beginners' climbing course, a pilates foundations course, a golf simulator course for new golfers. The money comes in before the first class.

A timetable people book class by class has a playbook of its own, [Launch group classes](/businesses/playbooks/launch-group-classes).

## One course with groups [#one-course-with-groups]

One course holds the term. Its groups are the levels and time slots people choose: Mini tennis on Monday, Juniors aged 10 to 12 on Wednesday, Adults on Thursday. Each group has its own classes, price, participant limit and instructors. All groups of a course share one registration period. Groups that open at different times go in courses of their own. See [Courses](/businesses/courses).

Choose the [payment mode](/businesses/courses/payments) first:

| If you want… | Payment mode |
| -------------------------------------------- | ------------------- |
| The whole term paid when people sign up | **Pay to join** |
| Sign-ups now and the bill once the term runs | **Pay later** |
| People who pay class by class | **Pay per session** |

A group's **Minimum participants** decides whether each class runs. When registration for a class closes below the minimum, Thril cancels the class and tells the participants. To run a small group anyway, clear its minimum. See [Classes below their minimum](/businesses/courses/registration-and-participants#classes-below-their-minimum).

---

## The course before registration opens [#the-course-before-registration-opens]

Publish the course with **Show course before registration opens**. Families see the groups, times and prices days ahead, and registration opens for everyone at the set time.

Tell people when it opens. An [announcement](/businesses/marketing/announcements) with a push notification reaches your app users, and a marketing [email](/businesses/marketing/emails) reaches the rest.

---

## Last term's families first [#last-terms-families-first]

Last term's participants are your easiest sign-ups. A dynamic [customer list](/businesses/marketing/customer-lists) with the **Courses** filter set to last term's course holds them. An email to the list goes to the guardian of each child, once per family.

Put a [promo code](/businesses/marketing/promo-codes) with a **Course discount** in that email, with an **Active period** that ends a week after registration opens. That is your early-bird price for families who come back.

For the next term, **Duplicate course** copies every group into new dates, without participants, queues or payments.

---

## Sign-up by guardians [#sign-up-by-guardians]

Turn on **Allow child accounts** in the event settings. Set **Who can sign up** to **Only children added by a guardian** on a junior course or group. The guardian signs the child up and pays, and the child is the participant. See [Course registration and participants](/businesses/courses/registration-and-participants#children).

---

## Questions at sign-up [#questions-at-sign-up]

A [participation form](/businesses/customers/participation-forms) asks your questions when people join: the child's skill level, allergies, a photo permission. **Required for sign-up** makes the answers part of joining. **Download CSV** on the course's participants gives the instructors every group's list with the answers.

---

## Full groups [#full-groups]

- **Queuing.** When a group is full, people join its queue, and the next person gets a place that frees up straight away. A long queue in one group tells you to open another.
- **Class replacement.** A participant who misses a class books one in another group of the same course.
- **Open classes to non-participants.** After registration ends, drop-ins can book free places in a class.

---

## Term sales and fill rates [#term-sales-and-fill-rates]

- In [Statistics](/businesses/statistics), **Gross sales by source incl. VAT** shows **Course sales**. Read it for the term, then set the **Date range** to the same weeks a year ago and read it again.
- The **Events** section counts course classes. The **Ranking** by **Series and events** lists each course group with its **Fill rate** and how many are **In the queue**.
- Each group's participant list shows who is confirmed, who is queuing and what they have paid.
- The promo code's usage list shows how many families took the early-bird price. Only last term's list got the code. The count is also the number of families who came back.
