# Run a league season (/en/businesses/playbooks/run-a-league-season)

A league gives players a reason to book every week for months. Each match is a court booking, each team has paid up front, and the standings keep people talking between matches.

A league needs enough regulars to fill a division or two. For one evening of matches, run a [tournament](/businesses/playbooks/run-a-tournament).

## Classes, groups and formats [#classes-groups-and-formats]

Create the league with the season's dates and a registration period. Split players by level into classes, such as Men A, Men B and Mixed. Each class has its own format, team size and limits. See [Leagues](/businesses/leagues).

| Format | Fits |
| ---------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Round robin** | A season where everyone in a group plays everyone. **Number of rounds** 2 plays each pairing twice |
| **Single elimination** | A knockout to finish the season |
| **Double elimination** | A knockout where one bad night does not end a team's season |

**Max teams per group** splits a big class into groups of a size that fits the season.

## Team prices [#team-prices]

**Price per team** is the whole team's price, and each player pays an equal share. A [promo code](/businesses/marketing/promo-codes) with a **League discount** gives early sign-ups or returning teams a lower price.

---

## Match bookings [#match-bookings]

Players book the court for each match from the match itself, in the Thril app or on the web. The booking follows your normal [pricing rules](/businesses/reservations/pricing). **Reservation benefits** on a class give those match bookings a discount, such as 50% on weekday evenings. A league player then pays less than a casual player.

The court price can be part of the league fee or paid per match. A free match booking is a 100% reservation benefit.

---

## Results and league managers [#results-and-league-managers]

Players enter the results of their own matches, and a later entry replaces an earlier one. Agree with the players who enters each result. Add **League managers** for anyone else who should enter or correct any result in the league, such as a club captain.

---

## The draw [#the-draw]

When registration closes, **Start league** lets you arrange the teams into groups and then draws the matches.

---

## League chats [#league-chats]

Each league has a [chat](/businesses/customers/chat) with all its players, and one chat per group. With **Announcement channel** on in the league chat, staff post and players read. Post schedule and price changes there, and they reach everyone without fifty replies. For news that should reach players beyond the league, post an [announcement](/businesses/marketing/announcements) to selected customers, with a push notification.

---

## Season sales and match bookings [#season-sales-and-match-bookings]

- In [Statistics](/businesses/statistics), **Gross sales by source incl. VAT** shows **League sales**, and **Reservation sales** includes the match bookings. To compare with last season, set the **Date range** to last season's weeks and read the rows again.
- For the evenings you gave the benefit, filter **Days of week** and read **Utilisation rate by hour of day**. **Utilisation rate** at the top compares the filtered days with the **Reference date range**.
- The league's **Results** tab shows how many matches each team has played. A group where most matches have no result is a group that is not booking.
- A promo code's usage list shows how many teams used the early-bird or returning-team code.
- Compare the teams in this season with the last one. The players who did not come back are the audience for next season's invitation.
