# Rentals and booking extras (/en/businesses/shop/pro-shop/rentals-and-extras) The best moment to sell rental gear or a sauna turn is while the customer books. Rentals and additional services are offered right in the booking flow, on the reservations where they make sense, and customers can add them to their booking later too. Both are [shop products](/businesses/shop/pro-shop), with the same price, discount and visibility settings. --- ## Gear rental, saunas and towels [#gear-rental-saunas-and-towels] **Padel racket rental.** A rental product that takes **Items**, with **Rental item stock amount** set to the ten rackets you own and an availability rule for padel courts. The eleventh customer isn't offered one. **Sauna after a simulator session.** A rental product that takes **Time on a resource**, with the sauna as the resource. **Rental time** runs from the end of the booking to 60 min after it. A 17–19 booking holds the sauna from 19 to 20. **A heated sauna on arrival.** Add device control to the sauna rental: the sauna switches on 30 min before the booking ends and off 60 min after it, whenever someone has bought the turn. **Towels for members.** A shop product marked as an additional service, with an availability rule that lists your memberships. **A drink with every evening booking.** An additional service with a rule for weekdays after 17:00 and **Maximum per booking** set to 4. --- ## Rental or additional service [#rental-or-additional-service] | Choose | When | Stock | | ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Rental product** | The customer uses it for a time and returns it, or it books a resource | Checked against the rental time. Items come back when the rental ends | | **Additional service** | The customer keeps or consumes it: a drink, balls, a towel to keep | The shop product's own stock, if it tracks stock | ### What a rental takes [#what-a-rental-takes] **A rental takes** decides what is held: - **Items** come from the count in **Rental item stock amount**, which is how many can be out at the same time. Leave it empty for no limit. - **Time on a resource** books a resource for the rental time. An exclusive resource is booked whole. On a resource with spots, each rented item takes one spot. A rental that books a resource shows in the calendar on that resource. If the resource has an access control integration, the customer's access code opens its doors for the rental. ### Rental time [#rental-time] **Rental time** is when the rental is held. **During the booking** is the default. **A time I choose** sets the start and end relative to the booking, such as "when the booking ends" to "60 min after the booking ends". The rental follows its booking. Moving or lengthening the booking moves the rental when the item or resource is free for the new time, and cancelling the booking frees the rental. **Rental instructions** show to the customer after the purchase: "Locker 2, code 9876" or "Collect from the front desk". ### Additional services [#additional-services] Turn on **Additional service** on a shop product and pick the variants under **Select variants**, such as both drink flavours. They share the availability rules, the booking limit and the device control, which you set once for the product. --- ## When an extra is offered [#when-an-extra-is-offered] **Availability rules** decide which reservations an extra is offered for. A rule can limit sports, resources, days, time slots, durations and memberships, and an extra is offered when a booking matches any one rule. With no rules, the extra is offered for every reservation. Days and times are checked against the rental time, and everything else against the booking. **Memberships** in a rule shows the extra to holders of those memberships. Staff can add any extra to anyone's booking. Changes to the rules apply to what is offered from then on. Extras already sold stay on their bookings at the price paid. --- ## Quantity per booking [#quantity-per-booking] - **Maximum per booking** caps how many a booking can hold, counting every participant. - **Maximum per purchase** caps one purchase. - **Can be shared in a split payment** lets the booker share the extra's price with everyone paying for the reservation. --- ## Device control [#device-control] With a lights or device integration through [Thrilight](/businesses/integrations/thrilight), an extra switches a device on and off around the booking that includes it. **Switch on** and **Switch off** are set relative to the booking's start or end. **Last moment to add or remove the extra** sets when customers can still change the extra: until the device switches on, or until a time you choose.
