Golf simulator competitions

Golf competitions on your golf simulators in Thril, with classes, stroke play and Stableford formats, start blocks, scorecards players fill in on the app, side competitions and a live leaderboard.

A golf simulator competition is a tournament played on your golf simulators. Players sign up and pay as for any tournament, play their round in a start block you reserve for them, enter their scores hole by hole in the Thril app and follow the leaderboard live.

Create it with Create → Tournament and the sport Golf simulator, which your venue has once it has an active golf simulator resource. Registration, payments, visibility and tournament managers work as in other tournaments.

Stableford nights, week-long championships and scrambles

A weekly Stableford night. One class, Stableford, one 18-hole round. A start block on each simulator from 18:00 with four players in each.

A championship played over a week. Classes for men, women and seniors, net stroke play, one round. The round's start blocks spread over the week, and each group plays on the evening that suits it.

A company scramble. One Scramble class with teams of four. Each team plays one card, and the leaderboard ranks the teams.

A two-round final. Two rounds of 18 holes. The leaderboard shows each round and the total.

Classes and formats

A golf competition has classes in place of brackets, such as Men, Women or Seniors. Each class has its own format, price, participant limits, scoring rules and leaderboard. A customer signs up for a class.

In a pairs or team format, one player signs the whole team up by naming the teammates. Scoring method scores these formats as stroke play or Stableford.

Each class also has these settings:

  • Handicap mode is Gross to rank raw strokes, or Net to subtract each player's handicap.
  • Handicap allowance is the share of the handicap a player gets in a net competition. In a format with one card per team, Team handicap weights sets how much of each player's handicap counts towards the team's handicap.
  • Tie-break method is Countback, which compares the last holes of the round, or Shared position, which gives level players the same place.
  • Show the live leaderboard to everyone is on by default. With it off, the players in the competition and tournament managers see the leaderboard until the round is completed.
  • Maximum handicap index turns away players with a higher known handicap index.

Handicaps

Staff set each player's handicap index on the tournament's Basic info tab before publishing the round. A net score uses the handicap index with the class's allowance on top. The handicap is copied onto the player's scorecard when you publish a round, and Edit playing handicap on the Scorecards tab changes it after that.

Rounds and holes

A competition has one or more rounds of 9 or 18 holes. For each round you enter Course played, the name of the course the simulators play, and the par and stroke index of every hole. Group size sets how many players fit in a start block, and Default block length how long a block holds its simulator.

The start list

Each round has a Start list built from start blocks. Add start block picks the simulator, the day and the time, and you drag players from the unassigned list into the blocks.

A start block reserves its simulator on the calendar as soon as you save it. Pick a time when the simulator is free. Deleting the block frees the simulator. A round's blocks can spread over several days, and players can play the same round on different evenings.

Publish creates a scorecard for every player in a start block and shows the start list to the players. Players see their own group, its simulator and its time in the Thril app and on the web. Unpublish takes the round back to draft until someone enters a score.

Scores and scorecards

A player in a start group taps Start round on the tournament in the Thril app and enters strokes hole by hole for everyone in the group. When the group has finished, a player submits the group's cards.

  • Players enter scores for their own group while the round is published and their card is open.
  • Tournament managers can enter and submit scores for any group. Read more in Tournament managers.
  • Staff can enter and correct any card on the Scorecards tab, and give each card its status: Submitted, Verified, Disqualified, No return or Withdrawn.

Other players in the competition can view any group's scorecard in the app.

Complete round records the final positions once every scorecard has a final status. In stroke play, a submitted card with a picked-up hole gets No return. To change a score afterwards, choose Reopen round, correct the card and complete the round again.

Side competitions

Add side competition adds a contest on top of the main one: Longest drive, Closest to the pin, Straightest drive or one you name yourself, on a hole and a round you choose. Staff enter each player's result on the Side competitions tab, and Thril ranks them. Players see the side competitions next to the leaderboard.

The leaderboard

Players follow the Leaderboard in the Thril app and on the web while the round is played. It updates as scores come in, shows each round and the total, and shows the final results when the last round is completed.
