POS devices

Thril POS runs on any computer or tablet, with Stripe Terminal card terminals, a USB receipt printer and a cash drawer. One printer can serve every till at the venue.

Thril POS runs in the browser, and any computer or tablet can be a till. Three devices complete it: a card terminal, a receipt printer and a cash drawer. You set them up under Devices in the POS settings. You buy the receipt printer and the cash drawer yourself.

Typical setups

One till with everything plugged in. A computer with a USB receipt printer, a cash drawer cabled to the printer and a card terminal next to it. Cash payments open the drawer, and every sale prints a receipt.

A second till without a printer. A tablet at the café counter takes card payments on its own card terminal and prints on the main till's printer. The main till's computer shares its printer, and the tablet picks it under Print through another device.

Two tills at a busy venue. Each till has its own card terminal. Staff pick the terminal when they send a payment. Give each terminal a name staff recognise, such as "Front desk right".

Payment terminals

Card payments at the POS go through Stripe Terminal card terminals. The terminal takes chip cards, contactless cards and phone wallets.

You add a terminal with Register device and the registration code the terminal shows. Give each terminal a Display name. When the customer pays, staff send the amount to a terminal and the customer pays on it.

Receipt printers

The POS prints to a USB receipt printer that speaks ESC/POS, the language most thermal receipt printers use. Connecting one needs Chrome, Edge or another Chromium-based browser on the computer the printer is plugged into.

Connect printer pairs the printer with that browser. Paper width matches your roll, 58 mm or 80 mm. The printer settings are saved in that browser. Set up each till on its own.

Receipts print on paper by default, and staff can make a PDF instead for a single receipt. A device with no printer makes PDF receipts, or prints through a shared printer.

A named customer gets the receipt by email as well, whatever you print. See Sessions.

Sharing a printer

Share with other devices on the computer with the printer lets tablets and other computers at the venue print there and open its cash drawer. Give the printer a name and Share printer. The other devices then pick it under Print through another device.

Sharing works while Thril is open in that browser on that computer.

Cash drawer

A cash drawer connects to the receipt printer's drawer port. With Open the cash drawer on cash payments on, the drawer opens on every cash payment and cash refund.

The POS tracks the cash in the drawer as the cash register balance, and staff count it when shifts open and close. See Shifts and cash.
