Course payments

Course participants pay upfront, by payment request after the course starts, or class by class, with refunds and cancellations to match.

A course takes payment in one of three ways.

You pick the payment mode when you create the course, and it stays with the course.

Choosing a payment mode

If you want to...UseHow it works
Take the whole fee before anyone gets a placePay to joinThe fixed total is charged when the customer joins. Session cards can pay it.
Bill after the course starts, or in instalmentsPay laterCustomers join without paying. You send payment requests when you choose, as many as you need.
Charge class by classPay per sessionEach class has its own price and the customer pays for each class, like a single class booking.

Membership discounts can be attached to a group's price in Pay to join and Pay later. Promo codes choose the courses they cover.

Pay to join

Each group has a Fixed total price, charged when the customer joins. Minimum sessions is the number of classes the participant commits to, shown next to the price.

A session card can pay the enrollment, and you set how many sessions it takes from the card. The card has to allow course enrollments.

A customer promoted from the queue gets the place first and pays the fee after, in the app.

Pay later and payment requests

A Pay later group has a Fixed or a Flexible price.

  • Fixed. Everyone owes the same Fixed total price for the group.
  • Flexible. The amount follows attendance. A request charges a price per class the participant attended, with a minimum number of billable classes. The customer sees the price range when they join.

Create payment requests on a group bills the participants you pick. You see what each has attended and been billed so far. Thril notifies them, and they pay on the web or in the app. Participants keep their place while a request is open.

You can send a reminder, void a request the participant no longer owes, or Mark as paid when they paid you some other way. Another round of requests later bills in instalments, for example once per term.

Pay per session

Each class has its own price. Default price per class on the group prefills the price of new classes, and you can change it class by class. Participants pay for each class the way they pay for a single class, also with a session card that covers course classes.

Participants book the classes you add to a Pay per session group later themselves. In the other two modes, existing participants are added to new classes at no extra charge.

Refunds when a participant leaves

When you remove a participant who has paid, you choose how to refund them: automatically through Thril, to the original payment method, as credits, by hand, or not at all. Refund payment refunds the participant's whole payment and keeps them in the group. To refund part of a course that is halfway through, choose Handle manually and settle the amount with the participant. Read more in Payments.

Cancelling a course

Cancel course cancels every upcoming class. Classes that have already taken place keep their attendance and payments.

In Pay to join and Pay later, the course payments are refunded in full with the refund method you choose, and open payment requests are voided. In Pay per session, each cancelled class is refunded the way a cancelled class is.

Every participant gets one message about the cancellation.
