Trial periods
A recurring membership can start with a free or discounted trial in days or months, with or without the option to cancel during it.
A trial gives a new member the full membership for a set time before billing starts: benefits, booking and door access. It can be free or have one price, such as two weeks for €10. Use it when customers should try before they commit to a contract or a notice period. For a lower price on whole billing periods, use introductory pricing. Trials go to customers who have never held the membership.
Setting up a trial
Under Trial period on a recurring membership, choose Free trial or Discounted price, set the length in days or months and, for a discounted trial, the Trial price. A monthly membership can have a 14-day trial. Allow termination during trial decides whether members can cancel before the trial ends. A change applies to new members.
In the shop, the customer sees how long the trial lasts, the price after it, and whether they can cancel during it. A discounted trial charges the Trial price once.
After the trial
The day the trial ends becomes the member's renewal day. A member who joins a monthly membership on 31 January with a 14-day trial pays on 14 February and on the 14th of every month after that. The first renewal is at the first introductory price, or the normal price, and a contract starts counting from it. A monthly membership with a 14-day trial and a fixed contract length of 12 gives 14 trial days and then 12 paid months.
A discounted trial paid by card renews automatically when the member keeps Use my selected card for future renewals. ticked. After a free trial, the first paid renewal arrives as a payment request in the app, where the member can also turn on automatic payments. Tell new members this in the Purchase confirmation email.
For a trial week that doesn't roll into a membership, sell a session card limited to one per customer.
Cancelling during a trial
With Allow termination during trial on, a member who cancels during the trial keeps the membership until the trial ends, and then it ends with nothing more to pay. With it off, the membership continues to its first renewal and the contract applies from there. To refund a trial price you have agreed to return, refund the payment.
