Contracts and cancellation

Recurring memberships can have fixed contracts, minimum commitments and notice periods. Members cancel in the app or through your venue, and Thril reminds them before the contract ends.

A recurring membership's contract settings decide what a member has agreed to pay for and how the membership ends. Each member keeps the terms they joined with.

Fixed contract

Fixed contract length makes a number of billing periods binding. With When the fixed contract period ends set to End the membership, the member pays for every period and the membership ends by itself after the last one. On a six-period contract, joining pays for period 1, the next five renewals pay for periods 2 to 6, and the membership ends after period 6.

The first payment is period 1. With a trial, period 1 is the first renewal after the trial. Introductory and goodwill periods count like any other.

Minimum commitment

With When the fixed contract period ends set to Continue without an end date, the field is called Minimum contract length. The member pays for every committed period, and the membership then carries on until they cancel. A cancellation during the commitment takes effect once the rest of the commitment and any notice period are paid. Members see when their commitment ends in the app and on the web.

Notice period

Notice period is the number of billing periods a membership runs after the member cancels. The member pays for them and keeps their benefits until the end. On a monthly membership with a notice period of 1, a member who cancels during a paid month is charged for one more month, and then the membership ends. Without a notice period, the membership ends with the current paid period. After a minimum commitment, the notice period follows the rest of the commitment.

Cancelling in the app

With Let members cancel in the app on, members cancel in the app or on the web, and the notice period starts from that moment. Turn it off to talk to every member before they leave. Members then see your phone number and email. Say how to cancel in the membership's description.

Your staff can cancel for a member even with this setting off.

End membership under Manage member ends a recurring membership in one of two ways:

  • Cancel with notice cancels as if the member had. The membership runs through the rest of any minimum commitment and the notice period. Before you confirm, Thril shows the end date and the renewals still to be charged.
  • End now ends the membership straight away, without a notice period. Benefits and door access stop, payments already made stay, and credits and session cards the membership granted stay with the member.

A one-time membership or a running fixed contract can only end now. End memberships does the same for the members you select in the list.

A cancelled member shows Cancelled with the date. Until the membership ends, Undo cancellation under Manage member brings back the renewals and the remaining commitment. Pauses the cancellation ended or called off stay that way.

A cancellation ends a pause that stops payments, and the notice period is charged. A goodwill price can make the notice period free.

Contract end reminders

Remind members before the contract ends sends an email and a push notification a set number of Days before the end of a fixed contract or minimum commitment.

  • Continue without an end date. The reminder says when the commitment ends, how often the membership is charged after that, and the date it would end if the member cancelled today.
  • End the membership. The reminder says when the membership ends, and that the member can join again to keep their benefits.

When the end date moves, for example because of a pause, the member gets a new reminder with the new date.

Changing one member's terms

Change contract terms under Manage member sets what one member owes: Remaining minimum commitment periods, Periods until the membership ends, or the Termination period. Let the member know about the change.
