Installing SimSalaThril

Installing SimSalaThril on a golf simulator PC, pairing it with its resource in Thril, keeping it signed in, and fixing a PC that does not lock, unlock or install.

SimSalaThril runs on each simulator PC and locks the screen outside bookings. You install it once on every PC and pair the PC with its resource. SimSalaThril explains what the add-on does and what you need before you start.

Installing and pairing

1. Choose the settings

Open Settings → System → Integrations → SimSalaThril and choose when simulators unlock. See Unlock settings. Switch the status to Active and save. Simulators pair once the integration is active.

2. Add staff codes

Staff enter a staff code at the PC to unlock or lock it by hand. On the Access codes tab, add a Staff code for each staff member. The PC's log then shows who did what.

3. Install SimSalaThril on the simulator PC

  1. On the simulator PC, download the Windows installer. The Download for Windows button on the SimSalaThril settings page gives the same file.
  2. Run the installer. It installs for the signed-in Windows user. It asks for administrator rights when the PC needs the Microsoft .NET runtime. Have an administrator at hand for the first PC. Windows can show an "unknown publisher" warning for a downloaded installer. Select More info, then Run anyway. If Windows blocks the installer or the app outright, see Windows blocks SimSalaThril.
  3. SimSalaThril starts and locks the screen. A new PC shows a notice that the simulator is not set up yet.

Install it on every simulator PC. Each PC pairs with one resource.

4. Pair the PC with a resource

  1. In Thril, open the Simulators tab of the SimSalaThril settings and select Pair a simulator.
  2. Choose the resource this PC belongs to and create a pairing code. The code works once and expires soon after.
  3. On the simulator PC, press Ctrl+Shift+F12. The Pair this simulator window opens.
  4. Enter the code and select Pair.

If the top row of the keyboard runs media functions instead of F1 to F12, hold Fn as well: Ctrl+Shift+Fn+F12.

The PC now shows as Online on the Simulators tab, and bookings on that resource unlock it. Each resource has one PC, and pairing a new PC replaces the old one.

5. Keep the PC signed in

SimSalaThril starts when Windows signs in. Set the PC to sign in to the same Windows user automatically after a restart, and leave that user signed in.

6. Test it

Make a test booking on the resource that starts now. The PC unlocks within seconds. Cancel the booking or let it end, and the PC locks again after the extra time you set.

Managing simulators

The Simulators tab lists every paired PC and whether it is online. Open a PC to give it Unlocked hours of its own, Unpair it, or read Staff actions, which shows which code unlocked or locked the PC and when.

A PC that does not lock or unlock

  1. Check that the integration is Active. While it is switched off, all simulators stay locked.
  2. On the Simulators tab, Offline or an old last-seen time means the PC cannot reach Thril. Check its network and that SimSalaThril is running in the tray.
  3. A PC that says the simulator is not in use was unpaired, or the integration is off. Pair it again if it was unpaired.
  4. A pairing code that does not work was already used or has expired. Create a new one.
  5. Staff can always unlock the PC with a staff code while you sort it out.
  6. Contact Thril support with the venue, the resource and the PC name.

Windows blocks SimSalaThril

On some PCs, Windows Smart App Control blocks the installer or SimSalaThril and shows "Part of this app has been blocked". Smart App Control runs apps whose publisher Windows has verified, and SimSalaThril is not on its list.

To run SimSalaThril, turn Smart App Control off in Windows Security under App & browser control, then run the installer again. Microsoft's guide Smart App Control has blocked part of this app shows how to find the blocked file in Protection history.
