Credits and credit top-ups
Customers top up a prepaid balance and spend it at your venue like money. Top-ups can give a bonus, expire on a date and pay for almost everything you sell.
Credits are money a customer has already paid you. The customer tops up a balance and spends it on bookings, classes and products the way they would spend cash. You get the money up front, and the customer has a reason to come back.
You choose how many credits a top-up gives. A bonus works as a discount that is only good at your venue: pay €40, get €50 of credits.
Credits belong to one customer's account. For a balance someone can give away, sell gift cards.
Manual adjustments and VAT
Add or subtract credits by hand, and choose whether they carry VAT when spent.
Importing credit balances
Move customers' balances from a previous system with one CSV file.
Bonus packs, open top-ups and campaigns
Bonus packs. Three fixed top-ups: €30 for 30 credits, €50 for 55 and €100 for 120. Bigger buyers get better value, and you get more money in advance.
Top up any amount. One top-up where the customer chooses the amount and gets the same in credits. Regulars use it to keep a balance to pay from.
A season campaign. A top-up with a generous bonus, an Expiration date at the end of the season and a sale window that takes it out of the shop when the campaign ends.
Employee benefit money. A customer tops up with Epassi or Stebby at the end of the year and spends the credits over the following months. See Credits bought with an employee benefit.
Static and dynamic top-ups
| Kind | Price and credits | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Static | You set the price and the credits received, in any ratio | Fixed packs and bonus offers |
| Dynamic | The customer chooses the amount and gets the same amount in credits | An open "top up any amount" product |
A top-up is sold at VAT 0%. VAT is charged when the credits are spent, at the rate of what they pay for. See Manual adjustments and VAT.
In your books a top-up is a liability until the customer spends the credits. With Netvisor, top-ups go to the Credits balance account. See Bookkeeping vouchers and accounts.
What credits pay for
At checkout in the app, on the web and at the POS, customers pay with credits for:
- reservations and recurring reservations
- events, classes, tournaments, courses and leagues
- service bookings
- session cards
- shop products, rentals and extras
- memberships with Allow purchase with credits on
Credit top-ups, gift cards and invoices are paid another way, and so is a basket that holds one of them.
Every credit works the same, whether it came from a top-up, a refund, a membership benefit, a welcome offer, a workflow or staff. The one exception is credits bought with an employee benefit.
To give value that works only on session cards, grant the session card itself, give a promo code for it, or make it a membership benefit.
Expiry and spend order
Each top-up sets how long its credits last: No expiration, Expiration period in days from the purchase, or an Expiration date that is the same for everyone. A change applies to credits bought after it.
The credits that expire soonest are spent first, and credits without expiry last. The customer's Credits tab shows when each batch expires.
Venues and selling
Credits work at every venue of your company, whichever venue sold them. In some companies set up earlier, credits work only at the venue that sold them. support@thril.fi can change that.
Top-ups sell in the Credit top-ups category of your shop and at the POS, at the venue that created them or at every venue with This product is available in all venues. Visibility in shop works as for other products, and the Sales section adds a sale limit, a sale window and a regular price.
Customers keep the credits they bought when you delete a top-up.
Credits bought with an employee benefit
Customers can top up with an employer-funded benefit, such as Epassi, Edenred or Stebby. Those credits pay for products you have marked Payable with an employee benefit, and at checkout the customer sees the part of the balance that fits the purchase. Credits bought with Epassi stay tied to the Epassi account that paid. See Epassi.
Importing session card purchases
Customers' session cards move from a previous system with one CSV file that holds purchases of any number of cards, with their remaining sessions or hours and expiry dates.
Manual credit adjustments and VAT
Staff add or subtract a customer's credits by hand for compensation, gifts or payments taken outside Thril, and the credit type decides whether VAT is charged when the credits are spent.
